In a remarkable stride toward youth empowerment, 120 students have successfully graduated from the Badagry 1,000 Tech Talents Programme. This transformative initiative, championed by Mr. Sesi Whingan, the lawmaker representing Badagry Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, is designed to equip young people with the skills needed to thrive in today’s tech-driven world.

The programme, delivered in partnership with Codeverse Africa, reflects Whingan’s vision of addressing unemployment and poverty by fostering technological expertise among the constituency’s youth.

At the graduation ceremony, Whingan expressed his satisfaction with the progress made, reaffirming his commitment to building a tech-savvy generation in Badagry. “The exceptional performance of this cohort assures me that my dream of equipping Badagry youths with tech skills is achievable,” he stated. He further pledged ongoing support for trainees who develop innovative tech solutions, emphasizing that technology is a powerful tool for transforming lives and communities.

In recognition of outstanding performance, Whingan presented brand-new HP laptops to 50 exceptional trainees, alongside certificates of completion for all graduates. The programme is set to train an additional 880 youths in the coming year, signaling a sustained effort to empower 1,000 tech talents in the constituency.

Mr. Sejiro Ajose, a facilitator from Codeverse Africa, encouraged the graduates to build on their newly acquired skills and resist the temptation to sell the tools provided. “This is just the beginning; make the most of it,” he urged.

Prince Olu Kosoko, son of Oba Oladele Kosoko, highlighted the life-changing potential of the initiative, urging the graduates to use their knowledge to uplift their communities. Similarly, Dr. David Opeyemi Oke, Chairman of the Technical Organizing Committee, lauded Whingan for his visionary leadership. “Technology is the goldmine of our era, and Whingan’s initiative positions Badagry youths to seize its opportunities,” he said.

A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of six innovative tech projects developed by the graduates, showcasing their creativity and potential. The event drew notable dignitaries, including APC leaders from Badagry Local Government, Olorunda LCDA, and Badagry-West LCDA, who commended Whingan’s foresight in launching the initiative.

With this programme, the future of Badagry’s youth looks brighter, as they are empowered not just as consumers but as creators in the global tech economy.
