Former Kogi State senator, Dino Melaye, has predicted that Nigerians will vote the All Progressives Congress (APC) out of power in the 2027 general elections.

Melaye made the statement on Monday while appearing on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.

He said there was a growing disconnect between the President Bola Tinubu-led administration and Nigerians, citing hunger, insecurity, killings and corruption as evidence.

The former lawmaker also criticised what he described as the administration’s “nonchalance” towards the plight of Nigerians, while faulting President Tinubu’s reported remark that “all is fair in politics.”

Melaye said the African Democratic Congress (ADC), under which he is seeking political relevance ahead of the 2027 elections, would benefit from Nigerians’ dissatisfaction with the current government.

“The winning strategy for the ADC is very simple. The people are with us. The people are tired of maladministration, lies, borrowing, three budgets and three successions not being implemented,” he said.

He questioned the government’s handling of its budgets, arguing that some projects and contracts approved in previous years remained unfunded despite government borrowing.

According to Melaye, the growing hardship in the country has created widespread dissatisfaction with the government.

“The people in this country have blood flowing through their veins and not kerosene, so they respond to stimuli,” he said.

Melaye further accused the Tinubu administration of creating an atmosphere where Nigerians are increasingly afraid of the government.

“From former President Muhammadu Buhari downwards, the government is always afraid of the people when they want to take decisions. But under the Tinubu administration, people are afraid of the government because they are so brazen, wicked, nonchalant and don’t give a damn,” he said.

He also criticised Tinubu over the president’s comments on political competition, arguing that statements suggesting that “all is fair in politics” could encourage electoral malpractice and violence.

“You are a president. You are supposed to be a mentor. The words of presidents are supposed to be quotations on a daily basis,” Melaye said.

He maintained that Nigerians were watching the government’s actions and would express their judgment through their votes.

“The president and his family members should begin to pack their luggage from the Aso Rock Villa, including those in the Boys’ Quarters,” he said.

Melaye expressed confidence that the ADC would win the 2027 election, insisting that the outcome would demonstrate the extent of Nigerians’ dissatisfaction with the APC-led government.

“And I am telling you that the results will tell in January 2027,” he added.
