Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has dismissed the presidential ambition of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Peter Obi, insisting that the former Anambra State governor will not become Nigeria’s president.

Speaking during an interview on TVC on Monday, Oshiomhole described Obi as a trader whose approach to leadership is driven by short-term calculations rather than long-term planning.

According to the former Edo State governor, traders are primarily focused on quick returns and are not wired to think about long-term national development.

“Peter Obi is a trader. Traders have short-term calculations; they are not into long-term projections. They are not wired to think about what the situation will be in the long run. Their turnover is within three months, maximum of six months,” Oshiomhole said.

He also accused Obi of abandoning the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) after previously pledging loyalty to the party in honour of the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

Oshiomhole noted that Obi later joined forces with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as his running mate, describing the move as inconsistent with his earlier political stance.

The lawmaker further argued that Nigeria needs leaders with entrepreneurial and manufacturing experience who understand long-term investment and economic development.

“It is a manufacturer, an investor or an entrepreneur that understands how you can start a project, spend years building a factory, install machinery and then begin production,” he said.

He also criticised Obi’s business interests, alleging that they encourage the importation of goods rather than local production.

“Nigeria was virtually grounded. Peter Obi is not aware because he is busy trading. I have said to people that Peter Obi’s business is to export jobs and import unemployment into the country. That is what he lives for. He’s a trader. He owns a shopping mall,” Oshiomhole added.
