The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced the restoration of normal electricity supply to Abuja and other parts of its franchise area following the resolution of technical issues affecting transmission lines from the Shiroro Transmission Station.

The announcement comes amid a disagreement between AEDC and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) over the cause of the recent drop in power supply to the Federal Capital Territory.

AEDC had earlier reported that its power allocation fell from about 641 megawatts to 314MW, blaming the reduction on the tripping of 330kV transmission lines supplying Abuja from Shiroro.

TCN, however, dismissed the claim as “inaccurate and misleading”, insisting that the 330kV lines remained in service. The transmission company attributed the reduced supply to low electricity generation on the national grid.

TCN maintained that there was no transmission failure responsible for AEDC’s reduced allocation.

In a statement dated August 27, AEDC announced that the situation had been resolved.

“We are pleased to inform you that the transmission constraints affecting power supply to Abuja and other parts of our franchise area have been fully resolved,” the company said.

AEDC added that technical issues on the transmission lines from Shiroro had been rectified by TCN, resulting in the restoration of its power allocation to normal operational levels.

The company also thanked customers for their patience and understanding while efforts were made to restore stable electricity supply.

However, AEDC’s latest statement did not directly address TCN’s earlier denial that transmission-line tripping caused the reduction.

The two agencies therefore continue to offer different explanations for the recent power shortage, although AEDC says electricity allocation has now returned to normal levels.
