The reaction followed complaints from a Nigerian entrepreneur who revealed that rent on a property in Banana Island had reportedly increased by a staggering 392.31 percent.

Responding via her Instagram story, Esoro disclosed that her own business recently received another rent increment notice, pushing the annual rent to ₦50 million.

She questioned the rationale behind landlords raising rents without making any improvements to their properties.

“The same house you already own, with no renovations done, and you increase the rent just because you can. On what ground?” she asked.

The actress argued that frequent and steep rent hikes place immense pressure on tenants and business owners, forcing many to relocate, shut down operations, or lay off workers.

According to her, the trend reflects a lack of empathy for the economic realities facing Nigerians.

Esoro called on landlords to be more considerate, stressing that kindness and understanding are needed, especially during difficult economic times.

“Some landlords really need to do better. Show a little empathy and kindness,” she added.

Her comments have resonated with many Nigerians online, where concerns over soaring housing and commercial property costs continue to spark debate.
