Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has revealed that she lost some Christian fans after publicly disclosing that she is a Muslim.

The actress made the disclosure during an interview with media personality Chude Jidenowo, where she spoke about her faith and the challenges of openly identifying as a Muslim in Nollywood.

Ade said she had previously been reluctant to publicly identify as a Muslim because of the nature of the entertainment industry.

According to her, publicly declaring one’s Muslim faith is “almost forbidden” in Nollywood, as it could lead to negative perceptions.

She said she eventually decided to speak openly about her religion after becoming tired of keeping it private.

“In my line of work, it is almost forbidden for you to publicly say you are a Muslim. You could be looked down upon for doing that. It is just something that I noticed,” she said.

Ade explained that her understanding of Islam goes beyond outward appearances and is more about how a person treats others.

“Islam for me is not all about outward look. It is what is within. How you treat others,” she said.

The actress said she had attended different churches and did not intend to criticise Christianity, but simply wanted to be open about the faith that works for her.

“I am not saying Christianity is not a good religion. It is not for me to say. I am just saying what works for me, is Islam,” she added.

Ade also recalled how some fans reacted after she publicly disclosed her faith, saying some unfollowed her on social media while others sent messages to her privately.

She said some people prayed for her, while many Muslims welcomed and supported her after the revelation.

“A lot of Muslims embraced me. But I really don’t care about that. It is just for me and what works for me,” she said.
