he Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade under Operation Tiger Paw II have neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered a cache of weapons and other items during a coordinated ambush operation in the Adankolo Forest Reserve in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Brigade’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security across major routes in Kogi State, following previous offensives against criminal groups around Obajana and the Agbaja forest axis.

The army explained that troops attached to the 12 Brigade Quick Response Group acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected terrorists within the forest reserve.

“Acting on credible intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists, soldiers from the 12 Brigade Quick Response Group laid in wait at a known bandit crossing point within the forest reserve,” the statement read.

The troops reportedly engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle, killing one of them, while others escaped into nearby bushes with gunshot injuries.

During a follow-up operation in the area, soldiers recovered two AK-47 rifles, one locally made pistol, six magazines, and 145 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Other items recovered included a camouflage bandolier, a Honda motorcycle, Diclofenac medication, three mobile phones, three power banks, and cash totaling N62,900.

The army stated that the operation underscores its determination to deny criminal elements freedom of movement and enhance security across communities and highways in the state.

Troops are currently combing the surrounding forest areas in a bid to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
