The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property in Plateau State following recurring attacks in parts of the state, as residents prepare for the farming season.

The General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Folunsho Oyinlola, made this known during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held in Barkin Ladi on Thursday. The engagement was aimed at strengthening peaceful coexistence and improving security across affected communities.

Oyinlola explained that the operation would intensify clearance of criminal hideouts, increase patrols in flashpoints, and enhance collaboration with other security agencies to rid the state of violent elements. He noted that both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies are being deployed to ensure lasting peace.

He added that recent calm in Barkin Ladi resulted from sustained dialogue, conflict-resolution efforts, and the determination of residents to maintain harmony. However, he raised concerns over emerging threats, including attacks on miners and an unusual influx of cattle into farming communities, describing them as warning signs that require urgent collective action.

According to him, the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, has approved the distribution of fertiliser to farming and herding communities to support agricultural productivity and reduce tensions. He also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, for deploying a Special Forces unit to reinforce ongoing operations in the state.

The commander urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to strengthen conflict-resolution mechanisms, discourage provocative actions, and promote a code of conduct for peaceful coexistence.

He further appealed to residents to provide timely intelligence to security agencies, stressing that troops under the operation remain committed to enforcing peace, protecting citizens, and upholding the Constitution regardless of ethnic or religious affiliations.
