ernational Ademola Lookman is set to face disciplinary action from Atalanta after embarking on a two-week training strike in an attempt to force a move to Inter Milan—a transfer that has now collapsed.

Lookman returned to Atalanta’s training base in Zingonia this week, where he met with CEO Antonio Percassi to discuss his future following Inter’s withdrawal from negotiations, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Inter had reached personal terms with the Super Eagles forward on a five-year deal. Still, Percassi refused to sanction a sale to another Serie A club, despite reportedly assuring the player that he would be allowed to leave in 2025.

Frustrated, Lookman staged a strike—missing training sessions without presenting a medical certificate and removing all Atalanta-related content from his social media. The club, however, stood firm and rejected Inter’s final €45m bid, prompting the Nerazzurri to walk away from the deal. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Inter have now told the player’s camp the agreement is “OFF.”

Atalanta is reportedly preparing heavy sanctions. La Gazzetta revealed that the club will fine Lookman, dock his wages for the days missed, and may also demand a public apology.

Despite the standoff, head coach Ivan Juric is reluctant to lose more attacking firepower following the shock sale of Serie A top scorer Mateo Retegui. Juric has warned that letting Lookman leave could cost the club “90 per cent of their goals.”

This leaves both parties in a delicate position: Atalanta must enforce discipline without damaging Lookman’s market value, while the forward faces the risk of being sidelined ahead of December’s Africa Cup of Nations. A reintegration plan, including restoring him to the starting XI after disciplinary measures, remains a possible compromise.
