Demola Olarewaju, Senior Political Assistant to African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has accused President Bola Tinubu of adopting his principal’s idea on petrol pricing subsidies.

Olarewaju said Tinubu should appreciate Atiku for allowing him to use the policy idea, following the announcement of a 30-day fuel price discount at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling stations by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele.

He also called on Tinubu to leave the Presidential Villa peacefully in 2027, urging Nigerians to vote wisely in the next general election.

In a post on X, Olarewaju wrote: “We should thank Atiku for also giving Bola permission to steal the petrol pricing subsidy idea and put any name on it as they’ve now shamelessly done.

“We don’t need their thanks, I’m sure. They should just vacate Aso Rock peacefully by next year if Nigerians vote wisely.”

He further criticised members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that they should oppose the fuel price discount if they genuinely believe in the party’s economic ideology.

Olarewaju described the development as a vindication of Atiku’s position on petrol pricing, claiming that the government’s decision showed a shift from what he called its previously uncaring attitude towards Nigerians.

He also alleged that Tinubu had become uncomfortable with Atiku’s policy proposal, referring to previous remarks the President reportedly made about the former vice-president.

Olarewaju called on the President to fully restore petrol subsidy, warning that Nigerians could vote the APC out of power if the government failed to address the burden of rising fuel prices.

“‘Bring Back Subsidy fully or Nigerians will vote you out’ is the next thing Tinubu should do,” he added.
