A police officer has been killed and several properties destroyed following a bandit attack on Sayaya village in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The assailants reportedly invaded the community on Sunday, April 5, 2026, launching a coordinated assault on a local police station where one officer was fatally shot.

The attackers also targeted a Primary Health Care Centre, vandalised vehicles, and looted shops, carting away goods and other valuables during the raid.

Residents said the attack caused widespread panic, forcing many to flee their homes as the gunmen operated for several hours without resistance.

According to locals, the community had experienced relative calm in recent times following a peace agreement, making the renewed attack unexpected.

Following the incident, the Dikko Umaru Radda visited the affected community to assess the extent of damage and commiserate with residents over the losses.

During his visit, the governor inspected destroyed facilities and expressed condolences to the family of the slain officer as well as the leadership of the police command.

He also directed the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to the area to prevent further attacks and restore peace.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators and strengthen security presence in vulnerable communities across the state.
