Super Eagles striker, Cyriel Dessers as one of six potential January targets, but any move for the Rangers forward depends on the club freeing up their wage bill.

According to Foot 365, the French club are considering multiple signings as they battle to avoid relegation, with Dessers’ situation at Rangers making him an attractive option.

The Nigerian international has fallen down the pecking order at Ibrox following the emergence of Hamza Igamane and Danilo’s return from injury, managing just six goals and two assists in 18 league appearances this season.

Saint Etienne’s interest comes just weeks after Rangers rejected a £4.5m bid from Major League Soccer side Atlanta United for the striker, with the Scottish giants unwilling to sell for less than their £6m investment.

The French club are reportedly willing to pay up to €5m for targets like Montpellier midfielder Arnaud Nordin, suggesting they might struggle to meet Rangers’ valuation of Dessers.

Norwegian manager Erik Homeland’s side have prioritised signing Rennes midfielder Baptiste Santamaria on a loan-to-buy deal, while also making contact over Ajaccio defender Jesah Ayessa.

Dessers, who joined Rangers from Cremonese in 2023 for £4.5m, has endured a mixed spell in Glasgow, producing some memorable moments but also facing criticism for inconsistent performances.

Rangers fans have grown increasingly frustrated with the striker’s recent form, with many considering him one of five high-earning players not delivering value for money at Ibrox.

The club has already been linked with South African striker Isaac Rayners as a potential replacement should Saint Etienne successfully negotiate Dessers’ transfer.

Despite facing early criticism with some fans labelling him a ‘donkey’, Dessers had previously shown his worth under former manager Philippe Clement, who considered him virtually indispensable to Rangers’ campaign before his recent dip in form.

Saint Etienne are also exploring moves for Rosenborg’s Marius Broholm and Qatar-based left-back Matteo Dams as they seek to strengthen their squad for the relegation battle ahead.
