Nigerian comedian and influencer, Aderombi Adedayo Martins, popularly known as DeeOne, has criticised Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, over the alleged failure of the police to arrest social media activist, VeryDarkMan.

DeeOne made the allegation in an Instagram video on Tuesday while reacting to reports that VeryDarkMan had refused to honour a police invitation for questioning.

The comedian questioned why VeryDarkMan had allegedly not been arrested despite publicly stating that he would not honour the invitation, while other celebrities had faced arrest for similar actions.

He cited the recent arrest of former Big Brother Naija housemate, Tacha, and social media personality Blord over alleged failure to honour police invitations.

According to DeeOne, the law should apply equally to every Nigerian, regardless of their status or influence.

He accused the IGP of preventing VeryDarkMan’s arrest and questioned whether the police chief was acting in the interest of Nigerians or protecting the activist.

DeeOne said: “Our current Inspector-General of Police, Mr Tunji Disu, is becoming a useless man. What is good for a citizen is also good for all citizens.

“Recently, former Big Brother Naija housemate Tacha was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force because she failed to honour the police invitation twice. The police did the right thing to arrest Tacha, but she has been released on bail.

“Today, VeryDarkMan has been invited by the same NPF twice. He has even come out on his platform to say that he will not honour the invitation.

“To the IGP, you cannot be in office forever. And the information reaching us is that they are going to change you very soon.

“They have approved for VeryDarkMan to be arrested. The person that is holding the arrest now is IGP Tunji Disu. So, Nigerians, is this man working for Nigerians or working for VeryDarkMan?”

DeeOne further warned that he would continue to speak publicly about the matter and hinted that he could raise other issues concerning the police leadership.

He added that he would respect Disu as a person but would continue to criticise his actions as IGP.

VeryDarkMan had earlier announced that he would not honour the police invitation, which followed a series of allegations he made against Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Jimoh Moshood.
