Nollywood actress Mrs Oluwabukola Awoyeni, known as Arugba on Tuesday urged parents to stop discrimination among their children because every child is important.

Arugba, a filmmaker and singer, advised an event organised by Youth Artisan Foundation with the theme entitled:” Our Time is Now, Our Right, Our Future to celebrate 2022 International Day for Girl Child in Badagry, Lagos.

According to Awoyeni, don’t rate any children higher than the others, you don’t know who will be the greatest among them.

“If all your children are female, don’t look down on them or think you don’t have children, only God knows what they will become in future.

“What a boy child can do, a girl child can do better, both of them can also work hand in hand to achieve something great,” she said.

She appealed to parents not to lose hope if they have female children.

Arugba urged the girl child to always protect themselves against any sexual harassment.

“You should be confident in yourself, let your no be no and yes, yes.

“You have lots of responsibility, focus on your future and your education,” she said.

Mrs Funke Oyedeji, one of the teachers said the girl child had a special place in every home.

Oyedeji advised them not to be intimidated or speechless in the face of humiliation.

She charged them to be women of value, adding that they should not be used as sex tools.

In his remarks, Mr Oladapo Sanni, the Executive Director, of Youth Artisan Foundation, said the objective of the event was to celebrate girl child.

“We discovered that the girl child is not being celebrated when it comes to their day.

“Today, being the international day for the girl child, we have to bring them together to celebrate them and make them feel worthy in the community and society at large.

“We should make sure we celebrate our girls, no girl child is a waste, work on them and they will be great,” he said.

Sanni urged parents to inculcate morals into the life of the girl child and watch every step they take.

He said the event was sponsored by Union Bank, Airtel and Lagos Pad Bank.
