The family of veteran Nollywood actress Peju Ogunmola has addressed speculations surrounding the death of her only son, Sola Ayomikun Omobolanle, about the circumstances of his passing.

The Nigerian movie industry was thrown into mourning days ago following the news of Ayomikun’s death, with reports on social media alleging that he died in the United Kingdom after a bathroom accident.

However, in a statement signed by family spokesperson Yemi Amodu, the family clarified that Ayomikun passed away in Ibadan, Nigeria, after a brief illness, not from any accident as widely reported.

The statement read:

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Sola Ayomikun Omobolanle (son of Sunday & Peju Ogunmola Omobolanle), a jewel, a precious child, and a rising star whose light touched many lives. His death is a profound loss to our family and all who loved him.

We wish to state clearly that Sola did not pass away as a result of any bathroom accident, contrary to false reports circulating online. He was briefly unwell and received first-class medical care during that period. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he peacefully answered the call of his Creator at a hospital in Ibadan. He has since been laid to rest at Eternal Rest Home.

We strongly urge the public to disregard misleading claims suggesting he died from a bathroom fall. These falsehoods not only dishonour his memory but also inflict unnecessary pain on his loved ones.

At this time of grief, we remain deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers. Your kindness has been a source of strength and comfort.

We pray that no family ever has to endure the pain of untimely loss. May the Almighty grant Sola eternal rest and grant us all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
