Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has described the ongoing political crisis between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as a spiritual battle rather than a mere political disagreement.

Speaking on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television, Fayose recalled that he had issued a warning to Fubara at his inauguration in 2023, cautioning him against going into a confrontation with Wike.

According to Fayose, he made what he termed a prophetic statement at a dinner organised to welcome Fubara as governor, shortly after Wike’s valedictory events. He said he advised the new governor to guard against negative influences and remain loyal to the former governor who played a key role in his emergence.

Fayose explained that he warned Fubara to “seal his doors and windows” against political advisers who could sow discord and destroy his relationship with Wike, stressing that any move to confront the former governor would attract serious consequences.

He noted that despite initial efforts by President Bola Tinubu to mediate in the crisis, tensions resurfaced during Wike’s recent stay in Rivers State, where the minister reportedly renewed hostilities and questioned Fubara’s chances of securing a second-term ticket, even after aligning with the All Progressives Congress and supporting Tinubu.

The former Ekiti governor insisted that the developments which followed his warning validated his earlier remarks, describing the fallout between both leaders as the fulfilment of a spiritual prophecy rather than ordinary political rivalry.

Fayose added that political power can easily change people, especially during a first term in office, and warned that forgetting past loyalties and allowing external influences could lead to prolonged crises.

He concluded by saying the unresolved tension between Wike and Fubara would persist because, in his view, the roots of the conflict go beyond politics and are spiritual in nature.
