Prominent Lagos socialite, Olaseni Johnson Olayinka, popularly known as Abu Abel, has been arrested by operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, over his alleged involvement in a staggering ₦447 million land fraud case.

The arrest was executed by a tactical team led by CSP Taiwo Oyewole, acting under the directive of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Margaret Ochalla.

Reports indicate that Abel had been on the run for weeks before law enforcement agents tracked him down to a hideout in Victoria Island, Lagos, where he was eventually apprehended without incident.

The Allegation

Abu Abel is accused of fraudulently obtaining ₦447 million from a land transaction, with claims that he sold land to multiple buyers using forged documents and misleading claims of ownership. Victims reportedly lodged formal complaints, prompting an investigation and eventual manhunt by the police.

According to police sources, the arrest followed a petition filed by Doyin Investment Group of Companies, alleging that the suspect fraudulently sold them three plots of land situated at Augustina Orji Street, within Ojomu Chieftaincy Family land, Oke-Arin Village, Mayegun, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos.

The company, through its lawyers, claimed that in 2023, the suspect falsely represented himself as the legitimate owner of Plots 1, 4, and 10, measuring about 1,800.311 square metres, and convinced them to pay ₦447 million for the property. A Deed of Assignment was duly executed between both parties.

However, following the transaction, the company discovered that the land was already encumbered and subject to a third-party claim.

Ongoing Investigation

Police sources say Abel is currently in custody as investigations continue. Authorities have hinted that more arrests may follow, as several individuals linked to the alleged fraud are also being investigated.

The arrest has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing shock and calling for a thorough probe into the case.
