FIFA has warned fans attending the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico that a wide range of items will be prohibited inside stadiums as part of enhanced security measures.

Under the updated tournament security policy, banned items will be confiscated at entry points, while possession of certain restricted goods could result in removal from venues, detention, or legal action depending on local laws.

The governing body said the rules are aimed at ensuring the safety of players, officials, and supporters throughout the competition.

Among the everyday items prohibited inside stadiums are beach umbrellas, selfie sticks, folding chairs, inflatables, oversized bags, and large personal items that cannot fit beneath seats.

FIFA also confirmed that electronic smoking devices, including vapes and e-cigarettes, will not be allowed. In Mexico, where vaping products face stricter legal restrictions, violators could face significant penalties.

Pyrotechnic items such as flares, fireworks, and smoke bombs remain strictly forbidden. Anyone caught with such items risks immediate ejection from the stadium and possible criminal prosecution.

The organization has also introduced strict bag regulations. Fans will only be permitted to bring transparent bags or very small clutch bags. Outside food and drinks are generally prohibited, except for approved medical necessities or infant-related items. Spectators may, however, carry one empty transparent plastic bottle for refilling inside the venue.

Noise-making devices, including air horns, whistles, and vuvuzelas, have also been banned to maintain order during matches.

Other prohibited items include:

• Weapons and self-defense devices such as pepper spray and tasers
• Explosives and fireworks
• Hazardous or flammable materials
• Glass bottles, cans, and throwable objects
• Sporting equipment like frisbees and inflatable balls
• Bicycles, scooters, and skateboards
• Animals, except certified service animals
• Alcoholic beverages and unauthorized liquids
• Illegal drugs and controlled substances without prescription
• Laser pointers
• Drones and remote-controlled aircraft
• Professional broadcasting equipment
• Tripods, monopods, and selfie sticks
• Oversized binoculars and excessive power banks

FIFA said the restrictions form part of a comprehensive security framework designed to prevent disruptions and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone attending the tournament.

Fans have been advised to review stadium regulations carefully before travelling to avoid delays, confiscations, or possible legal consequences.
