Musa Muhammad Kamarawa, a former Senior Special Assistant to ex-Zamfara State governor Bello Matawalle, has alleged that missing Nigerian activist and lecturer Abubakar Idris was killed in his presence.

A screenshot containing Kamarawa’s allegation, reportedly written in Hausa, has been circulating widely on social media platforms.

Dadiyata, known for his outspoken criticism of government policies and northern political leaders, was abducted by gunmen from his residence in Kaduna on August 1, 2019, and has remained missing since then.

Reacting to the claim, political commentator Imran Wakili said the allegation presents an opportunity for authorities to thoroughly investigate Dadiyata’s disappearance.

“Such a statement cannot be ignored, brushed aside, or treated as ordinary political talk. It demands a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation,” Wakili wrote on X.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency journalist Bakatsine also called for a transparent probe into the allegation.

“This is a weighty accusation involving enforced disappearance and alleged extrajudicial killings. The authorities must investigate transparently, and those responsible, if found guilty, must face justice,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Kamarawa had earlier submitted a petition to the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday, accusing two senior police officers — CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba — of alleged extortion, unlawful property seizure, illegal house searches and conducting what he described as a biased investigation against him.

In the petition addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Kamarawa claimed the officers pressured him not to disclose his relationship with Matawalle during interrogations.

He further alleged that he was threatened and coerced into making statements under duress.

According to the petition, Kamarawa also accused the officers of threatening to kill him “as they killed Dadiyata and Saminu S/Fada Gusau,” alleging the incidents occurred at Operations Yaki in Kaduna.

He additionally claimed investigators repeatedly questioned him about his relationship with former Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, whom he described as their “main target.”

The allegations have not yet been officially addressed by the police or the individuals mentioned.
