cautioned critics against turning the Ibom Deep Sea Port initiative into a political issue, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to delivering the long-awaited project.

The governor made this known while receiving the project’s feasibility report from the technical committee at the Government House in Uyo, noting that steady progress is being made toward its realization despite delays spanning over two decades.

He outlined key steps already taken, including the completion of a detailed feasibility study, preparation of investor briefs, construction of access roads, as well as geophysical and geotechnical assessments. He also disclosed that a dedicated project office has been established to coordinate activities.

Eno urged members of the committee to intensify engagement with potential investors and stakeholders, stressing that the success of the project would bring significant economic benefits to Akwa Ibom State and beyond.

The governor further directed relevant authorities to begin training programmes for youths, aimed at building a skilled workforce that will support both the construction phase and long-term operations of the port.

He acknowledged the contributions of past leaders such as Victor Attah, Godswill Akpabio, and Udom Emmanuel, who laid the groundwork for the project, while emphasizing that its development requires patience and continuity rather than political rivalry.

Earlier, the committee chairman, Mfon Usoro, explained that the port is structured as a public-private partnership and is expected to boost economic growth, expand Nigeria’s port capacity, and improve ease of doing business.

She added that, once completed as a Free Trade Zone, the Ibom Deep Sea Port would serve as a major transshipment hub for the Niger Delta region, highlighting the milestones already achieved so far.
