The Nigeria Police Force has received 2000 bed mobile barracks equipment donations from the Federal Republic of Germany through the GS-Foundation.

The mobile barracks which consists of tents, mobile kitchen’ mobile showers, and mobile toilets were officially handed over to the Acting Inspector General of police Kayode Egbetokun on Friday at the Police Training College Ikeja Lagos state.

Speaking at the event Matthias Seeger, former Inspector General of the Federal Police Germany, said: “We gather formally hand over the eight-person tents and mobile components which will provide essential accomodations for 2,000 police officers.

Explaining further, Mr Seeger disclosed that “Originally, these tents were intended for use at the college in Maiduguri in connection with the 2023 elections.

“However, with the elections concluded, I learned from the IGP that these tents are now needed in the four to six hotspots across Nigeria to provide accommodation for new mobile units.

“In addition to this equipment, our primary focus remains training.

“We have successfully trained over 600 trainers of the Nigeria Police officers. We intend to continue this effort and initiate training for a whole mobile model unit, pending approval from the IGP.

“I am pleased to inform you that the Foreign Office has signalled its willingness to extend its engagement in this police reform project until the end of 2025.”

Appreciating the Federal Republic of Germany and the GS-Foundation for the equipment donation, Acting Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun said: “The donations that we are receiving today are very well appreciated. It will go a long way, in the implementation of our program of having this special security intervention.

Calling on other agencies to key into the vision of the Nigeria Police Force, Egbetokun said: “I want to use this opportunity to appeal to other agencies to look into the direction of the Nigerian police, to support our vision.

“We maintain, and the modalities in place for distribution.

“We will put in place management for maintenance and output, to ensure that it lasts for as long as it can last”, he added.
