o people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a violent attack by suspected armed bandits on Pwomol village in Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The incident, which occurred late Sunday night, April 5, left a trail of destruction as homes and food barns were set ablaze during the assault.

Confirming the development, the National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, said the attackers stormed the community around midnight, firing indiscriminately at residents.

According to him, two youths were killed in the process, while many others sustained injuries as they fled into nearby bushes to escape the gunfire.

Mwantiri revealed that the attack was the second on the community within a week, raising concerns about the recurring violence in the area. He added that the assailants, reportedly armed with sophisticated weapons, also destroyed several houses and food storage facilities.

He further disclosed that one of the suspected attackers, identified simply as Suleiman and said to be from Fass community in Riyom Local Government Area, was apprehended shortly after the incident. The suspect was reportedly arrested near the Redemption Camp area between Heipang and Kassa, with blood stains found on his body, and has since been handed over to security operatives.

The BYM leader called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the attack and ensure that justice is served. He also urged authorities to obtain useful information from the arrested suspect that could lead to the capture of other individuals involved.

While commending the swift response of Operation Enduring Peace, Mwantiri appealed to residents to remain vigilant and support security efforts by reporting any suspicious movements within their communities.
