The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, Chief Mrs. Oluwafunmilola Mutiat Disu, has called for stronger national commitment towards protecting, educating and empowering Nigerian children, stressing that every child deserves equal opportunities to succeed.

Disu made the call on Tuesday during the 2026 National Children’s Day celebration, where she urged stakeholders to embrace inclusive policies that would guarantee access to education, protection and hope for all children across the country.

Speaking on the theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” the POWA president said the future of the nation depends largely on the investments made in children today.

“The future is now. Every child carries the power to dream, learn, and lead,” she said.

She reaffirmed the commitment of POWA to the welfare and educational advancement of children, particularly those of police officers, describing education as one of the greatest investments any nation can make.

Disu disclosed that the association had awarded 20 scholarships across its schools, benefiting pupils in 19 primary schools and one secondary school, especially children of fallen police officers.

She also commended the Force Education Unit for reducing school fees for children of junior-ranking police officers, pledging continued support for programmes aimed at improving access to quality education.

Addressing children at the event, she urged them to remain committed to their studies and shun social vices such as drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime and violence.

“Choose discipline, integrity, compassion, and excellence. The choices you make today will shape your future,” she advised.

The POWA president also remembered children displaced by insecurity in parts of the country and called for their safe rescue and return to their families.

She further appreciated teachers and caregivers for their dedication to nurturing children despite prevailing challenges.

Disu urged Nigerians to work collectively towards building a society where every child feels protected, empowered and valued.

POWA is a support and advocacy organisation focused on the welfare of police families, women and children across Nigeria.
