The Iranian Football Federation has announced plans to file a formal complaint with FIFA, alleging that travel restrictions imposed during the 2026 World Cup are disrupting the national team's preparations.

According to the federation, Iran requested permission to travel from its training base in Tijuana to Los Angeles two days before Sunday's Group A clash against Belgium, but tournament organisers reportedly rejected the request.

The federation said the early arrival was necessary to allow players enough time to adjust to local conditions, complete training sessions and finalize preparations ahead of the midday kickoff.

“Despite having submitted its preparation schedule for the tournament well in advance, Iran’s national football team has once again encountered restrictions imposed by the organisers,” the federation stated.

Iranian officials also expressed frustration after the team was reportedly required to leave Los Angeles immediately after its opening 2-2 draw with New Zealand.

However, the administration of United States has denied that the measures came without notice.

Andrew Giuliani explained that Iranian officials had been informed beforehand that the delegation would only be allowed to enter the United States one day before each match and would be expected to depart shortly after the game.

“The team will be allowed to come in the day before the match and leave on the evening of the match,” Giuliani said.

The same arrangement is expected to apply to Iran's final group-stage encounter against Egypt in Seattle.

The dispute comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions involving Iran. Before the tournament began, the team relocated its training camp from Tucson to Tijuana, near the US-Mexico border.

The federation also claims that as many as 15 members of its delegation were denied US visas, creating additional logistical challenges.

Despite the controversy, Iran remains in contention for a place in the knockout stage and will be aiming for a positive result against Belgium in a crucial Group A fixture.
