An Israeli lawmaker, Heidi Moses, has accused Britain of hypocrisy over its position on Israel’s settlement activities and its historical role in Nigeria’s handling of the Biafra agitation.

Moses, a member of the Israeli Knesset, said Britain had no moral ground to criticise Israel over its actions in Jerusalem while, according to her, supporting Nigeria’s control over the Biafra region.

Her comments followed criticism by British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband of Israel’s decision to advance the E1 settlement project east of Jerusalem.

Miliband described the development as an “unacceptable and destructive act”, warning that it could sever the West Bank from East Jerusalem and undermine prospects for a two-state solution. The disagreement has reportedly strained relations between Britain and Israel.

Speaking on the Biafra issue, Moses said she represents Biafra in the Knesset and accused Britain of being responsible for the historical subjugation of the people of the region.

“I want to talk about the hypocrisy of Britain. I represent Biafra at the Knesset. Biafra is under the horror control of Nigeria,” she said.

Moses claimed that between 50 million and 70 million people live under what she described as “horrible control” by the Nigerian government, adding that some of them are Jews and Christians.

She also claimed that some Israeli rabbis had identified the Jewish population among the Biafrans as descendants of the biblical tribe of Gad.

According to Moses, she facilitated a recent visit by a delegation linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to the Israeli parliament.

She said members of the Knesset welcomed the delegation and expressed interest in supporting the Biafra cause.

“I brought the Biafra delegation to the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, and they were welcomed very warmly,” she said.

Moses further claimed that members of the Knesset had written to the United Nations over the detention of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, describing his detention as arbitrary.

She alleged that Kanu was “kidnapped and jailed” because of his political views and his campaign for Biafra’s independence.

Moses also referred to comments attributed to former US President Donald Trump about possible US military intervention in Nigeria, saying there had been no action so far.

“We must break this silence and tell the world who the British are. We have to show what is happening in Biafra and in every place in the world where the British are acting behind closed doors,” she said.
