Nigerian content creator Jarvis has responded to singer Ycee over his comments about her partner, Peller, describing his criticism as unfair.

Ycee had made the remarks during an appearance on the Afropolitan podcast, where he argued that intelligence and academic excellence were no longer being celebrated in Nigeria.

While discussing what he described as the growing popularity of social media personalities over educational achievement, the singer referred to what he called “Peller culture.”

“We now have an Olodo uprising, and it is terrible. It is like we are trying to accommodate unintelligent and ignorant people because we do not want them to feel bad, so now they are becoming the majority.

“There is a massive attack on the educational system in Nigeria. Now, it is not just the Yahoo culture alone; we also have the Peller culture. If we keep rewarding these guys, people will start to believe all they need to do is say or do something dumb, outrageous, or obscene online to get the clicks and numbers. No shade to Peller, though, because I have nothing against him personally,” Ycee said.

Reacting in a video shared on social media, Jarvis defended content creators, arguing that many young Nigerians turned to digital content creation because of the country's unemployment challenges.

She blamed the government for failing to create enough job opportunities and said content creation had become a legitimate means of earning a living.

“Government didn’t provide jobs for us, what exactly did you expect people to do?” she asked.

Jarvis also rejected the suggestion that content creators lacked education, revealing that she is a university graduate.

“I’m a graduate. Go and tell that to your president because you can’t expect individuals with high intelligence to end up cleaning toilets. You even mentioned my man as ‘Peller culture’. Everybody has their culture, so please don’t bring that thing here.

“Just because we’re acting funny and trying to earn a living, you’re telling us that we don’t want to have education? So what about me, who graduated from university?” she said.

The exchange has sparked debate on social media over the value of digital content creation, education and the changing pathways to success among young Nigerians.
