Over 50 boreholes have been supplied to villages in Jigawa State by the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), a non-governmental organization (NGO) with a base in Saudi Arabia.

The installation of the boreholes was a component of the organization’s endeavor to increase the benefiting communities’ access to water.

With the blessing and support of Governor Umar Namadi, the organization has also built 10 mosques in the last five years and plans to host an eye camp and medical outreach in the state in September.

When the state governor paid a courtesy call to the WAMY office in Kano, the organization’s director, Hashem Mohammed Abdelsalam, informed him of this.

While appreciating Governor Namadi and his entourage for the visit, Abdelsalam intimated him of the organization’s plan to build an Islamic University in the state.

He further commended the people of Jigawa for their continuous support to the WAMY.

Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor made this known in a statement on Sunday.

According to Gumel, “Highlighting the organization’s commitment to Nigeria, Mr Hashem recalled that WAMY first arrived in the country in 1973, just a year after its establishment, and has since been actively involved in various humanitarian activities, primarily in southern Nigeria.

“However, it was in the year 2000 that an individual from Jigawa State generously donated a plot of land in Kano, paving the way for the establishment of the WAMY Office there.”

The Director further pledged that Jigawa State would receive priority consideration for scholarships and other humanitarian interventions from WAMY.

Meanwhile in his response, Governor Namadi appreciated the organization for the offer of establishing an Islamic university in the state and extend scholarships to its citizens.

“Recognising the positive impact of WAMY’s activities on the lives of the people in Jigawa, the governor assured the organization of his full support and cooperation in achieving its mission within the state,” Gumel added.
