Residents of Alelu, Kimba, Jandutsi and Jadadi communities in Jega Local Government Area of Kebbi State have appealed to Governor Nasir Idris to urgently address persistent attacks involving alleged killings, abductions and destruction of homes by armed men.

In an open letter dated October 9, 2026, a resident of Alelu, Sufiyan, who wrote on behalf of the affected communities, said residents were living in fear as repeated attacks continued to disrupt their lives and livelihoods.

“We are tired of burying our people. The night has become something to fear,” he said, describing the situation in the communities.

Sufiyan said the attacks had forced many residents to abandon their farms, while some families had lost their homes and children had been displaced.

Appealing directly to the governor, he urged the state government to take immediate action to prevent further loss of lives and destruction of property.

“Your Excellency, Governor Kaura of Gwandu, we are crying out to you,” he said.

The resident outlined three major demands: the deployment of permanent security personnel along the Alelu-Kimba-Jandutsi axis, humanitarian assistance for families whose homes had been destroyed, and a visit by the governor to assess the situation firsthand.

“If these villages die, the heart of Kebbi has been killed,” he said, adding that the appeal was not politically motivated but a desperate call for survival.

Meanwhile, the Kebbi State Police Command has acknowledged the security challenges facing Alelu, Kimba, Jandutsi, Jadadi and other communities in Jega LGA.

The command's Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, told DAILY POST that security agencies had continued to respond to distress calls, repel attacks and intensify operations against criminal elements in the affected areas.

Usman attributed part of the security threat to its cross-border nature, saying it originated from a neighbouring state.

“Despite the cross-border nature of the security threat from a neighbouring state, we have continuously responded to distress calls, repelled several attempts of attacks and intensified efforts to rid the affected areas of criminal elements,” he said.

The police spokesperson also disclosed that a police inspector had recently been killed during security operations.

He appealed to youths and residents to stop blocking the Kebbi-Sokoto Highway in protest against the attacks, warning that such actions could disrupt movement for other road users and divert security personnel from ongoing operations.

“The command appeals to youths and residents of the areas to desist from blocking the Kebbi-Sokoto Highway, as such actions infringe upon the rights of others, further overstretch security personnel and divert attention from ongoing operations,” Usman said.
