The senior special assistant to President Bola Tinubu on media and publicity, Temitope Ajayi, has refuted the story that the president requested a presidential yacht.

Ajayi claimed in a statement that the Nigerian Navy made the request for a yacht and that the president does not require one to carry out his official duties.

Additionally, he stated that given the nation’s current economic circumstances, the budget office ought to be able to inform the public about the reasons behind the expenditure’s approval at this time.

Ajayi also said that the President and Vice President are always the only ones who know about the State House budget, criticizing the media for their inadequate coverage of it. He clarified that the funding does not basically go toward feeding the president and vice president; rather, it covers the entire State House, which employs hundreds of people.

Ajayi’s statement comes after Nigerians on social media criticized the provisions in the supplementary budget, including the N5.09 billion allocated for a presidential yacht and the N2.9 billion for sport utility vehicles for the Presidential Villa.
