The Delta State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized 2.446 tonnes of illicit drugs estimated at N2 billion between July 2025 and September 2026.

The NDLEA Commander in the state, Halilu Hamidu, disclosed this on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, while briefing journalists on the command’s activities and achievements during the period under review.

Hamidu said the command also secured the conviction of 248 suspects, while 223 drug-related cases remained pending in court.

He listed the substances seized to include 1.387 tonnes of Cannabis sativa, 81.023kg of cannabis seeds, 0.151kg of cocaine, 0.0317kg of heroin, 0.8906kg of methamphetamine and 666.295kg of tramadol.

Other recovered substances included Molly, Swinol/Rohypnol, diazepam/bromazepam, Exol-5, Cocodamol and 47.560kg of nitrous oxide, popularly known as laughing gas.

The command also seized 1,304.630 litres of liquid drug exhibits, including codeine, pentazocine injection, diazepam injection, tramadol injection and a mixture of cannabis and dry gin.

Hamidu identified the raid on a warehouse at Oko Market, Asaba, where illicit substances worth more than N150 million were recovered, as one of the command’s major operations during the period.

He also disclosed that three trucks loaded with codeine and other psychotropic substances, with estimated street values of N150 million and N100 million respectively, were intercepted.

According to him, two commercial buses were also intercepted along the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway with illicit psychotropic substances valued at more than N300 million.

The NDLEA commander added that the agency destroyed 35.2 hectares of Cannabis sativa farmland across the state.

He said the command also counselled 693 people struggling with drug dependence, comprising 463 males and 230 females.

Hamidu assured residents that the agency would continue its efforts to prevent drug traffickers from using Delta State as a transit route or a location for storing, cultivating and distributing illicit drugs.
