The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially appointed Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as its new National Chairman, following a unanimous endorsement at the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting yesterday.

Prof.Yilwatda, a former governorship candidate of the APC in Plateau State and an accomplished engineer, replaces Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down earlier this year. His emergence is seen as a move to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His nomination was proposed by Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma, and seconded by House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, with strong backing from President Bola Tinubu.

In his acceptance speech, Yilwatda pledged to build a stronger, united APC.

“I will work with every stakeholder to build the party, unite the party, and take it to greater heights,” he said. “Together, we will reposition the APC for greater achievements.”

Yilwatda, who hails from Plateau State, holds a PhD in Systems Engineering and previously served as a Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State. He also held the position of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs before his latest appointment.

Stakeholders from the North-Central region have welcomed his emergence, describing it as a long-overdue recognition of the zone’s contributions to the party.

The APC hopes that under Yilwatda's leadership, the party will not only consolidate on recent electoral successes but also strengthen internal democracy and widen its national appeal.
