Troops of the Nigerian Army have intercepted suspected terrorist logistics couriers and recovered a significant quantity of ammunition in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The development was confirmed in a statement by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, on Monday.

According to the statement, the operation carried out on April 20 followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected logistics operatives within the area. Acting on the tip-off, troops mounted a snap checkpoint along the Obajana–Kabba road, where they intercepted a Toyota bus travelling from Makurdi to Obajana.

Two suspects, identified as Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi, were arrested during the operation.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a sack containing 314 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition and three AK-47 magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat. Other items recovered include mobile phones, a driver’s licence, a National Identification Number slip, and an identity card.

In a related development, troops had earlier, on March 29, intercepted another suspected courier along the Jamata–Owara road in Lokoja. The suspect was found with a motorcycle specially modified with a hidden compartment used for transporting ammunition.

Further investigations from that arrest led to the capture of a high-profile suspect, Mathew Elisha, also known as Nasara, who was reportedly on a security watch list and linked to terrorist activities.

The Army noted that these operations are part of sustained, intelligence-driven efforts over recent months aimed at dismantling terrorist logistics networks within the region.

The suspects and recovered items have since been handed over to the 12 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation.

The Army added that the successful operations highlight the vigilance of troops in disrupting the movement and supply chains of criminal elements operating within the state.
