A Nigerian man, Jimoh Noah Onaolapo, has opened up about his decision to undergo a vasectomy earlier this year, explaining that he chose the procedure to protect his wife from the side effects of birth control methods.

According to him, his wife had been using contraceptive implants, but the method negatively affected her health and overall wellbeing. He revealed that she experienced acne and other complications linked to hormonal birth control.

After having four children, his wife reportedly decided she no longer wanted to continue with hormonal contraceptives and suggested they switch to using condoms instead.

However, Jimoh said he was uncomfortable with condoms and eventually decided to undergo a vasectomy in January as a permanent family planning option.

Sharing his experience after the procedure, he explained that he recovered within a few days and that his sexual performance was not affected.

“My manhood still works perfectly fine,” he said, adding that he resumed intimacy with his wife by the seventh day after the procedure.

He also used the opportunity to highlight the physical and emotional challenges many women face through childbirth and family planning methods.

According to him, women often endure pain, hormonal imbalance, emotional stress, body changes, and childbirth complications, including tearing during delivery.

In another post, he criticised men who strongly oppose vasectomy, arguing that many women go through far more difficult experiences for the sake of family planning and childbirth.

“Some men say nobody can touch their manhood, but they expect women to go through multiple pregnancies and painful childbirth experiences,” he wrote.

He added that vasectomy is medically considered one of the safest and simplest long-term birth control methods compared to many procedures women endure silently.

Jimoh also joked that his posts about vasectomy made him realise that many Nigerian men are extremely protective of their manhood.

“You can stress a Nigerian man or fight him, but don’t touch his manhood,” he said humorously.
