ate Government has joined dignitaries and admirers across the country in celebrating Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti on the occasion of his 100th birthday.

In a tribute personally signed by Governor Dapo Abiodun, the elder statesman was described as a symbol of patriotism, principled leadership and democratic ideals whose contributions to Nigeria’s political development remain significant.

Abiodun noted that Pa Fasoranti, who was born in Akure a century ago, distinguished himself as a teacher, administrator, politician and advocate of good governance.

The governor recalled that the Afenifere leader served as Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State during the administration of late former governor Michael Adekunle Ajasin between 1979 and 1983.

He also highlighted Fasoranti’s contributions to education through the establishment and expansion of schools, including Omolere Nursery School and extensions of Akure High School.

According to Abiodun, the elder statesman remained one of Nigeria’s strongest voices for democracy, restructuring and true federalism, playing active roles in pro-democracy struggles alongside nationalist leader Obafemi Awolowo.

The governor said Fasoranti endured persecution during the military era but remained committed to democratic governance as the best path for national unity and development.

Describing him as “a national treasure,” Abiodun said the centenarian’s wisdom and moral influence continue to inspire leaders across generations.

“The Government and People of Ogun State celebrate Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti at 100 and pray that Almighty God grants him many more fruitful years in good health and peace,” the statement added.

Pa Fasoranti turns 100 on Sunday, with prominent political leaders, traditional rulers and associates expected to attend events in his honour.
