ate Government has withheld the WASSCE results and testimonials of 17 graduating secondary school students over acts of misconduct during the completion of their final examinations.

The affected students, drawn from Oyemekun Grammar School, Aquinas Secondary School and CAC Grammar School in Akure, were identified in a viral video showing them tearing their school uniforms, chanting slogans and causing disturbances after writing their final examination papers.

According to the State Ministry of Education, the students engaged in unruly behaviour that violated school rules and brought the institutions into disrepute.

Speaking after an emergency meeting with school administrators and government officials, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, said the names of the affected students would be entered into the disciplinary records, also known as the "black book," of their respective schools.

He added that principals have been directed to establish misconduct registers in their schools, while some senior school officials have been queried for failing to properly supervise students and prevent the situation from escalating.

Ajibefun further disclosed that students who participated in the incident but are not in their final year have been ordered to be expelled immediately.

The commissioner stressed that while students have the right to celebrate the completion of their examinations, such celebrations must be conducted responsibly and within acceptable standards of behaviour.

He warned that the government would not tolerate actions capable of damaging the reputation and discipline of schools in the state.

According to him, the sanctions are intended to serve as a deterrent to other students and help preserve the integrity of the state's education system.

Parents and the affected students have been invited to the Ministry of Education to receive official letters outlining the disciplinary measures taken against them.
