Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is set to return to action in next week’s UEFA Champions League after initial fears of a lengthy injury layoff were eased, offering relief to the Turkish champions.

Reports from Kemerburgaz indicate that the Nigerian forward will be rested for the weekend’s league trip to Eyupspor, with the club prioritizing his fitness for Thursday’s clash against Eintracht Frankfurt.

“Osimhen is expected to be rested and not risked in the league match away to Eyupspor, with plans for him to start in the line-up for the Champions League clash in Frankfurt next Thursday evening,” Fanatik quoted Kemerburgaz as saying.

The 26-year-old suffered an ankle injury during Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against Rwanda, limping off in the 35th minute. His exit sparked concern in Istanbul, prompting Galatasaray to dispatch a private jet to fly him back for immediate medical checks.

Subsequent scans confirmed a moderate sprain with bleeding in the ankle ligaments. Club doctor Yener İnce confirmed the findings in a statement, assuring fans that treatment had already commenced.

The news calmed fears among supporters, many of whom anticipated the worst when Osimhen collapsed on the pitch in Kigali.

A record €75m signing from Napoli, Osimhen scored 37 goals in 41 appearances last season and is seen as central to Galatasaray’s European ambitions. Manager Okan Buruk views his swift recovery as crucial, particularly with Mauro Icardi yet to regain full fitness.

Osimhen has reportedly assured Buruk of his willingness to make sacrifices for the Champions League campaign, underlining the competition’s importance for the club this season.

With Icardi unavailable, Barış Yılmaz is expected to lead the attack against Eyüpspor, while Osimhen is carefully managed ahead of the Frankfurt showdown. Galatasaray has reiterated that no risks will be taken with their record signing.
