A tragic incident has sparked public outrage after members of a local vigilante group reportedly killed a final-year student of Prince Abubakar Audu University in Olamaboro Local Government Area.

The victim, identified as Andrew Amehson Aziko, was said to have wandered into the premises of Nana College of Health in Ibana Okpo before he was allegedly attacked by the vigilante operatives.

According to eyewitness accounts, Andrew—who was reportedly battling mental health challenges—was beaten with batons and allegedly tortured before being shot multiple times.

The incident was first brought to public attention by Danjuma Onoja, who called for a thorough investigation and accountability for those responsible.

Footage circulating online reportedly shows the victim being assaulted while pleading in Igala for mercy. He was also heard calling one of the attackers by name, suggesting familiarity.

Reports indicate that Andrew had recently been brought home for treatment after escaping from a rehabilitation centre before the incident occurred. Residents described him as non-violent and without any known criminal record.

A relative of the deceased, Monday Ujah, condemned the killing as “barbaric,” questioning the actions of the vigilante group and expressing disappointment over the lack of sympathy shown.

The body has been deposited in a morgue pending formal identification and further procedures.

The incident has raised concerns about alleged extrajudicial actions in the area, with some residents noting that this is the second such killing reported in the local government within two months.

As of the time of reporting, authorities and the management of Nana College of Health have yet to issue an official statement or visit the victim’s family, further fueling calls for justice and accountability.
