The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has questioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s priorities following his decision to embark on another three-week vacation in Europe amid worsening insecurity and economic hardship.

Obi, in a statement shared on his official social media page on Monday, criticised the President’s latest trip, arguing that Nigerians were still battling serious challenges that required urgent attention.

The former Anambra State governor also referenced reports that about 600 Nigerians, mostly women, children and elderly people, were abducted during Juma’at prayers in Niger State.

According to Obi, government spending on presidential trips and related travel expenses between June 2023 and April 2026 stood at about ₦37.64 billion, while Tinubu reportedly spent approximately 261 days outside the country during the period.

He also claimed that only ₦36 million was released to the Federal Ministry of Health in 2025 despite a capital allocation of ₦218 billion.

Obi said the figures raised questions about the government’s priorities at a time when Nigerians were struggling with insecurity, poor healthcare, unemployment and economic hardship.

“Leadership is about priorities,” he said.

The NDC candidate argued that the President should devote more attention to addressing the country’s security, healthcare, education and economic challenges instead of repeatedly travelling outside Nigeria.

Obi also urged the President and other public officials to patronise tourist destinations within Nigeria, arguing that domestic tourism could create jobs and boost businesses in the hospitality, transportation, agriculture and entertainment sectors.

“We deserve leadership that puts Nigeria first, leadership that cares and plans for a better Nigeria,” Obi said.

He added that this was the kind of leadership he and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would seek to provide through their political partnership.
