Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity, declaring that the state will never negotiate with bandits or terrorists but will instead focus on protecting lives, communities and democratic institutions.

The governor made the statement during the state’s Democracy Day celebration held in Jos on Friday, stressing that violence would never be rewarded with political concessions.

“Plateau will not negotiate with terrorists. We will protect our people, protect our communities and protect democracy. Anyone who thinks violence will give them a seat at the table of governance is mistaken,” Mutfwang said.

Addressing government officials, civil society groups, youths and other stakeholders at the event, the governor noted that his administration remains committed to engaging citizens through lawful and democratic means rather than yielding to criminal elements.

He highlighted recent measures taken to address security challenges in southern Plateau, including emergency security meetings, visits to internally displaced persons (IDP) camps and strengthened collaboration with security agencies.

According to Mutfwang, with the approval of President Bola Tinubu, the state has begun recruiting personnel into its security architecture, while emergency communication lines have been established to enable residents report suspicious activities promptly.

The governor added that the state is investing in technology and expanding security formations to improve the protection of communities across Plateau.

While blaming the persistent insecurity on forces seeking to keep the state underdeveloped, Mutfwang vowed that his administration would continue working to defeat criminality and restore lasting peace.

Despite the security concerns, he maintained that Plateau remains attractive for investment and tourism, noting that the state continues to record strong patronage from visitors and businesses.

“We must let Nigerians and the rest of the world know that Plateau is open for business. In spite of our challenges, many people still believe in the potential of our state,” he said.
