The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 30 suspected cultists during a raid on an alleged initiation gathering in Isara-Remo, Remo North Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects were reportedly apprehended at an uncompleted building where they had allegedly assembled for an unlawful gathering involving initiation activities, chanting, and the consumption of alcoholic substances.

Confirming the development on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the operation was carried out on June 16, 2026, by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with detectives from the Isara Area Command and Isara Division.

According to him, the operation followed credible intelligence indicating that a group of suspected hoodlums had converged at the location for cult-related activities.

“Acting on the intelligence, the Commander of the VCRU swiftly mobilised a combined team of operatives from the Unit, Isara Area Command and Isara Division. The operatives stormed the location, dispersed the gathering and arrested the suspects in a well-coordinated tactical operation,” Babaseyi stated.

The police also recovered four vehicles allegedly abandoned by fleeing suspects, a jack knife, a local drum, a ‘sekere’ (traditional rattle), and several bottles suspected to have been used for alcohol consumption.

The suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

Babaseyi said they would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects who escaped during the operation.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for their professionalism, discipline and swift response.

He described the operation as a reflection of the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and its determination to rid the state of cultism and other violent crimes.

The police commissioner reiterated that cult-related activities and unlawful gatherings would not be tolerated in Ogun State and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station.
