There is no doubt that Her Excellency Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi is a highly distinguished woman, who has done a lot to positively project women’s culture across the world.

It is thus not surprising that because of her pedigree, seasoned entrepreneurs, wives of governors, civil society organisations and traditional rulers on Saturday 20th June gathered together to celebrate her on the occasion of her 60th birthday.

In an elaborate and glamourous ceremony that took place on Saturday, June 10, at the Civic Center Victoria Island, Lagos State had the presence of dignitaries from across all walks of life.

Speaking at the event, Dr Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi Executive Director, Women Advocates Research and documentation centre WARDC and Coordinator BAF at 60 Conference organising committee said that Bisi Fayemi speaks truth to power.

According to her, “Life, no matter how long-lived without impact on humanity is only worth little.”

“Today’s event is all about giving true meaning to human existence and that’s what Erelu Bisi Fayemi represents. She is a woman who walks the top and ensures that life and itself is full of the essence for others.”

“She repositions us as we should be as women in the overall scheme of humanity with her long wrapper, going from coast to coast with her whispers so loud for everyone to hear.”

Sisterhood should and must be without borders. Wherever women are on the face of the earth, there must be no brothers, only sisterhood must be the currency and without limitations.

We are here to celebrate an icon, a woman, a daughter, a mother, a wife, and a developer.

In her keynote Lecture titled: Sisterhood Across Borders: Celebrating BAF at 60, Professor Abena P.A. Busia, Ghanaian Ambassador to Brazil said “In a world that’s often divided by boundaries, both physical and metaphorical. It is crucial that we come together to acknowledge the strength and beauty that lies in fostering sisterhood across borders. Today, we celebrate the unbreakable bond that transcends nationalities, cultures and backgrounds and we recognize that in the face of adversity, our shared humanity unites us all. Sisterhood at its core embodies the spirit of empathy, support and empowerment. It is a testament to the resilience and courage of women who throughout history have risen above societal constraints, prejudice and discrimination to forge packs of progress and transformation. From trailblazing leaders to awesome heroes, women have consistently defied expectations and proven their worth regardless of the borders that may seek to confine them. When we speak of sisterhood across borders, we speak of a bond where compassion knows no boundary, it is a world where women uplift one another, and celebrate each other’s achievements. It’s a world of wrappers. Please a round of applause for the wrapper woman. It is a world where women uplift one another, celebrate each other’s achievements and stand shoulder to shoulder in the face of adversity.”

The highlight of the event was the official unveiling of the Wrapper Tribe and the launch of two books written by the celebrant.

Unveiling the Wrapper Tribe, Ibukun Awosika said regardless of where we come from, solidarity transcends languages, religions, race and socioeconomic backgrounds binding us together. Let us build bridges instead of walls, and open our hearts and minds to the richness and diversity our woman’s community offers.

Today we celebrate the countless tolls of inspiration and achievements and sacrifices of our sisterhood across borders. We celebrate a woman who has tirelessly fought for equality, advocating for the right of women and empowering sisters around the world. We celebrate a gender activist, a feminist who has fearlessly spoken out against injustice, inviting movement of change, far beyond our community. We celebrate a woman who has been dedicated to building bridges fostering understanding and nurturing peace.
