True to traditional Yoruba architecture, almost all the buildings are arranged around courtyards, fostering openness, ventilation and communal living. More elaborate structures boast multiple courtyards, each surrounded by rooms that open inward, reinforcing the palace’s reputation as a masterpiece of indigenous design.

Observers who have visited the revitalised palace describe it as an unmatched repository of Yoruba culture and tradition. The complex is richly adorned with artworks and sculptures, including carved wooden house posts and door panels, symbols traditionally associated with royalty and wealth. Modern artistic expressions also find space within the palace, with figures of lions and hunters fashioned from mortars, while walls come alive with mosaics and painted murals depicting daily life, decorated calabashes and mythical beings.
