Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave approved by President Bola Tinubu, marking his first official leave since the administration took office on May 29, 2023.

The development was disclosed on Thursday in a statement issued in Abuja by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.

According to Nkwocha, the leave will allow the Vice President to devote time to study, reflection, and capacity building as part of efforts to enhance his effectiveness in office.

He said the period would also give Shettima the opportunity to review the administration's ongoing programmes, assess key policy priorities, and deepen his understanding of emerging national and global issues.

Nkwocha noted that the exercise would better prepare the Vice President for future responsibilities as the Federal Government continues the implementation of its Renewed Hope Agenda.

He added that since assuming office, Shettima has remained actively involved in coordinating and supervising several strategic government initiatives.

According to the presidential aide, the Vice President has played key roles in areas including economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation, and regional cooperation.

Nkwocha also highlighted Shettima's role as Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC), where he presides over meetings involving the 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and other senior government officials to deliberate on economic policies and national development.

Beyond his domestic responsibilities, the statement said Shettima has represented President Tinubu at major regional and international engagements, promoting Nigeria's interests in economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment, and sustainable development.

Nkwocha stated that the Vice President remains committed to the values of loyalty, duty, and public service and will resume official duties after the expiration of the two-week leave.
