The African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has promised to introduce a monthly minimum wage of N500,000 for Nigerian workers if elected president in 2027.

Sowore made the pledge in an interview with The Independent while outlining the party’s agenda for the 2027 general elections.

He also promised to provide 24-hour electricity and make education free and accessible at all levels.

The activist said his administration would construct one million public mixed-income homes and reform tenancy laws to reduce the pressure of advance rent payments on Nigerians.

Sowore described the AAC’s agenda as one focused on “revolutionary justice and equal rights,” arguing that Nigeria’s wealth had been undermined by corruption, incompetence and policies that favour a small political and business elite.

He said Nigerian workers could no longer survive on what he described as starvation wages while politicians and political appointees receive millions of naira.

“Our agenda is revolutionary justice and equal rights. Nigeria is enormously wealthy, yet Nigerians have been deliberately impoverished through corruption, incompetence and an economic system designed to reward a tiny political and business elite. We intend to change that fundamentally,” he said.

“We are proposing a N500,000 monthly living minimum wage because Nigerian workers cannot continue receiving starvation wages while senators, governors and political appointees consume millions every month.

“We will deliver 24-hour electricity because no serious industrial economy can operate permanently on generators. Education will be free and accessible at all levels, and no Nigerian child should be denied education because his or her parents are poor,” Sowore added.
