Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has said neither he nor the party is part of the opposition coalition talks led by Professor Pat Utomi ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sowore made this known in a statement posted on his verified X handle.

Utomi had initiated a Political Commission to engage selected opposition presidential candidates and their party leaders in closed-door meetings aimed at forming a coalition and producing a single opposition candidate for the 2027 election.

However, Sowore said the AAC would not participate in the talks, stressing that the party’s political direction is based on ideological principles rather than political convenience or the pursuit of power.

According to him, the AAC represents a revolutionary alternative to the existing political establishment and would not abandon its programme for a coalition aimed at replacing one group of establishment politicians with another.

“For the avoidance of doubt, neither I nor the African Action Congress is part of these talks, and we will not be joining any such coalition. Our position is clear and principled,” Sowore said.

He argued that many politicians presenting themselves as an alternative had previously operated within the same political system under the APC, PDP, Labour Party and other political platforms.

Sowore said the AAC’s agenda focuses on social and economic justice, equal rights, accountable governance, and the redistribution of political and economic power to Nigerians.

He maintained that the party would remain committed to its programme rather than enter into an arrangement driven by political convenience.

“We will not abandon that programme for an arrangement whose principal objective is simply to replace one set of establishment politicians with another,” he added.
