Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 10 kidnapped civilians in separate operations across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on August 20, 2026.

The rescue operations, conducted between August 18 and 19, followed intelligence-driven searches, aggressive patrols and rapid responses to terrorist activities across the Joint Operations Area.

In Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, troops on patrol on August 19 encountered an ambush by suspected terrorists. The soldiers engaged the attackers and forced them to flee, rescuing five civilians who had been held captive. Two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists were also recovered.

In Kebbi State, troops acting on intelligence about the abduction of three people launched a search-and-rescue operation in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area on August 18. All three victims were rescued and handed over to the appropriate authorities after being profiled.

Similarly, troops responded to reported terrorist activity in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State on August 18. The operation forced the terrorists to flee, leaving behind two captives.

The two victims, who reportedly sustained gunshot wounds while in captivity, were immediately evacuated to a medical facility for treatment. Troops are continuing efforts to track the fleeing terrorists.

The Joint Task Force commended its personnel for their swift response and vigilance, assuring residents of continued military operations against terrorist and kidnapping networks across the North-West.

It also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations and protect lives and property.
