For many Nigerians in the diaspora and even within the country, December isn’t complete without a journey to the village. Not for noise, but for grounding. Rivers become gathering points, places where children swim freely and adults remember themselves at that age. Time feels suspended, as if the village refuses to rush you.

And then there are the people. The quiet realization that beauty exists without performance. Village maidens with effortless grace, skin kissed by sun and labor, laughter unfiltered, confidence untouched by social media. No makeup tutorials, no curated feeds, just presence.

Just existing.

It’s a sharp contrast to Lagos December, the supercars, the gridlocked roads, the curated chaos. Yet neither is wrong. They are simply two versions of celebration. One loud and glittering. The other calm and ancestral.
