A woman identified as Victoria Adegoke was reportedly found dead in a bush in the Ilogbo-Eremi area of Badagry, Lagos, last Friday after suspected hoodlums allegedly attacked her while she was returning home.

According to reports, the deceased, believed to be in her 60s, was allegedly raped and strangled before her body was dragged into a nearby bush.

A community leader, who spoke anonymously, said the victim had attended a programme at The Joy of Christ Ministry, popularly known as Ayo Jesu Church, and was attacked in the early hours of the morning while heading home.

“The deceased is someone I know. Her daughter lives abroad. She had attended a church programme that ended a few days earlier and was staying with one of her siblings close to the church. It was while she was returning home around 6 a.m. that she was reportedly attacked.

“The suspects allegedly removed her clothes and underwear, strangled her, and made away with her phone. However, her ATM card and Bible were recovered at the scene,” the source stated.

Another resident described the area, located along the boundary between Lagos and Ogun states, as notorious for criminal activities and violent attacks.

“This is not the first time such an incident has happened here. Cases like this have reportedly occurred several times in the community. The area is unsafe, and residents have to be extremely careful,” the source added.

The source further noted that the victim, a grandmother, was found naked before police officers arrived at the scene and covered her body, adding that signs at the scene suggested she may have been sexually assaulted.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos State had yet to officially comment on the incident.
